The Missing Link In American Public Education by Joseph Cortese

After teaching high school English for 24 years at Lehighton Area High School, Lehigthon, PA, Joe decided to pursue his second master's degree, one in Educational Leadership from Widener University. His first had been a Master's of Arts from Lehigh University. During those 24 years, Joe had also worked in tutoring, teaching GED and Adult Basic Education classes at night, in retail sales in his own photography business, in coaching various sports, in advising the high school newspaper and yearbook, and had participated in many community-centered projects and volunteer activities. In the late 1990s, Joe left the classroom for an assistant principal job in the Bangor Area School District, Bangor, PA. Shortly after the tragic shooting at Columbine High School, his interest in positive and assertive discipline drove his relentless studies into a Doctorate, tying together his research in positive behavior and bullying, and their effects upon school and work environments. His research led to many speaking engagements in state, national, and international conferences. Following seven years as an administror in middle and high schools in the East Penn School District, Emmaus, PA, Joe wrote his first book, Phoenixivity. The nickname of Dr. Joe Positive reflects his deep, unwavering passion for public education.
